Light at the end of the Winter

OK, so we are not anywhere near the end of Winter really but this week it is lighter and a little warmer. Both these things are very welcome as the Winter here is harsh with pelting rain and freezing temperatures. It is nice not to have to use as many logs although we do need to order another lot to get us through February and March. Mind you, having a log burner or two actually is so very lovely.

Life here continues in a balanced way with a mix of pottering about at home, walking, cycling (my son!) mixed with working and a social life.

Home education has stepped up a gear which makes me happy with my daughter pretty much working independently on her own stuff and things I allocate. My son prefers to snuggle up and do his worksheets with me watching and I am fine with that. We have both enjoyed studying Charles Dickens and Mark Twain this week. He reads so well putting emphasis in the right places. We have a giggle too which I still think must aid a love of learning.

We have had our big shop supermarket trip followed by hot chocolate in one of the bars with the children. I love that sense of wickedness at being in the bar in the morning but then the bars are so different from pubs, much more like community hubs.

We have had a couple of good nights out as a couple too with one particularly wild one which merits a post in its own right at some point.

I am so looking forward to Spring and enjoying our beautiful forest and countryside more.

So all in all a good week.

How is your week going?

  1. Hi Catherine, aren’t wood burners the best for getting through those dark dismal days? We try to watch the amount of wood we are using, but it’s been so cold this last week that I’ve thrown caution to the wind and have just kept feeding it. It sounds like your children have got into there own learning routine and I think you’re right, a giggle does help the learning process. Hang in there spring is literally just around the corner!

Thank you for linking up with the #MMBC.

  2. We have signs of spring here already. The almond blossoms are starting to show and DD now comes home from her after school activity twice a week at 5 pm in the light, albeit gloaming, where s a few weeks ago it was definitely dark at that hour.

I hope you don’t take offense but your new life sounds like one long holiday that I’d like to be taking myself. Have a lovely weekend and enjoy the end of winter with all the snuggles in front of the fire and hot chocolate at the pub. xxx
